Can Rhinoback backup TrueCrypt volumes?
Rhinoback is fully compatible with TrueCrypt volumes. You can either backup data from within an encrypted volume, or you can backup the entire TrueCrypt volume.
To backup an entire TrueCrypt volume
Select the TrueCrypt file in the backup source of a backup dataset using the Rhinoback Online Backup Manager software. The entire volume will be backed up according to the schedule defined for the backup set. If Rhinoback's Delta file backup feature is enabled, then on subsequent backups, only the parts of the TrueCrypt volume that have been modified will be backed up.
To backup data from within a TrueCrypt volume
Mount the TrueCrypt volume using the TrueCrypt graphical user interface or the TrueCrypt command line utility.
Use the Rhinoback Online Backup Manager software to select the files that you want backed up from within the TrueCrypt volume. Note: the files will be encrypted by the Rhinoback Online Backup Manager software before it is transmitted to the offsite backup facility, the files will never be transmitted or stored in unencrypted form.
If you are planning to schedule the backup to run automatically, then you will need to issue a pre-backup command to mount the TrueCrypt volume during the backup job. See the example below:
truecrypt /v myvolume.tc /lx /a /p MyPassword /e /b
See the TrueCrypt documentation for details of the TrueCrypt command line utility.
