Q10077 - INFO: Backing up laptop computers using the Rhinoback Offline Backup Feature

Backing up laptop / notebook computers and other computers that may not always be connected

When computers are not always connected to the internet, such as portable computers, it can become challenging to automate backups.  Rhinoback online backup provides a feature called "offline backup" that is designed to solve this problem.  Rather than set a fixed schedule for a mobile computer, a backup interval can be specified in hours or days.  Whenever the computer is connected, and the interval has expired, the data will be backed up to a Rhinoback secure offsite storage facility.

To specify that a computer should be backed up using the Rhinoback offline backup feature:

  1. Do not specify a backup schedule
  2. Select "Extra Backup" for your backup set and enable off-line backup.
  3. Set a backup interval in days or hours.
  4. Set an email notification interval.

If the computer is not backed up within the email notification interval, then an email is sent to the contacts for the Rhinoback account alerting them that the computers needs to be backed up.
